I had a similar problem with Depp's performance as Willy Wonka, even though he doesn't sing.

But I do generally like him. I have fond memories of Edward Scissorhands, and watching Depp and Geoffrey Rush chewing the scenery was the only thing that made Pirates of the Caribbean worthwhile at all.
