Had a lovely day yesterday. Breakfast at Roxy's, followed by words, words, words. Worked on my Corflu conreport, which is close to finished, and worked on some Chunga- and Corflu-related correspondence and on editing the lettercol for Chunga. We've gotten some damned good letters on the latest ish! Listened to Yes' Close to the Edge at least three times. Payed housebills. Pulled weeds, weeds, weeds from another quarter of the traffic circle on Woodland Park Ave. In the rain, as it turned out, and me in a tanktop, anticipating sun. Drove up to Horizon Books on Capitol Hill looking for Leigh Brackett novels, and found two. Stopped at the Big Time on the way back for a bowl of beef barley soup and a tulip glass of the Trombipulator trippel. ("It'll funk you up.")

Read a few chapters of Brackett's first SF novel, The Nemesis from Terra, which was originally published as "The Shadow over Mars" in the Fall 1944 issue of Startling Stories. ("His sweat and blood dropped onto her white skin, shining in the red glare.") Came home and worked some more on the lettercol and correspondence. Watched King Hu's landmark wuxia film, Come Drink with Me (Da zui xia, 1966), for the umpteenth time. Cheng Pei Pei is so beautiful and fierce and calm in that movie. I could watch her forever. The action is constructed so artfully, with what isn't shown just as important as what is shown, perhaps moreso. A brilliant movie. The new DVD from Dragon Dynasty is well worth picking up -- probably the best release this film has gotten on home video in the US -- and I'll have to check out more of their Shaw Bros releases.

This morning I've already done some more work on the conreport. It's pretty much done, except for improving the jokes. Later I'll be meeting with my co-editors to plot further ishchief. Later still, I may be helping the neighbors move some stuff around in their store up in Greenwood.

Life is good. The only fly in the ointment yesterday was hearing a rat creeping around in the ceiling of my room. I've set a trap in a likely spot. Hey Billy take a walk, take a walk, take a walk.

Und so weiter.

It sounds like a lovely day, and I am definitely going to have to check out Come Drink with Me. But as I read your entry, I had the sinking feeling that no day of mine would be as full -- of incident or accomplishment. I suppose I'll just have to buck up, keep track, and find out.

Perhaps it's only a matter of perspective. I'm just stopping to smell the roses here, and you could do the same over there. (Rose-tinted glasses help!)

Our roses, though pretty, have no detectable scent. good thing, as Suzle is allergic.

I have a few minutes to check LJ today. You're the second person on my Friends list to have a comment from Ron Drummond. He must be having a quiet Sunday afternoon.

I suppose the roses are always rosier on the other side. The glasses probably would help -- yet here I go from thinking I must have been born wearing a pair to not being able to comprehend what rose-colored glasses could possibly be -- and back again!

Meanwhile, drifting archipelagos of springtime seedfluff spin slowly on the placid surface of the Hudson River, palest pink on sun-sparkling bluegrey.
