I hear you. My original thought was to throw a big party at Aussiecon, but I felt pretty ambivalent about it and am glad it didn't work out that way. Then again, we threw a "stand-alone" 50th for my brother, and that was fun too. On the other other hand, my sister refused to have any kind of party whatsoever for hers, not even a family-only thing. She didn't want to make a big deal about a number.
