Subway (1985)

Another 1985 film, along with Trouble in Mind, that I discovered only in the past five years but immediately fell in love with. They are both movies about dreamworlds, both influenced by post-punk New Wave fashion and hairstyles, both exuding retro-Hollywood cool and romantic melancholy. I like a lot of films from this era -- even if I didn't see them at the time, so it's not just nostalgia. These two movies share a visual and design sensibility with Diva (1981) and Blade Runner (1982) too, for example.

I was tempted to post three blue screen caps, because there's a lot of blue in the movie, but then I opted to post three that were devoid of the lead characters instead.

Yeah, I really want to see Subway again now. Will have to arrange that.

I just checked, and I've watched it six times since I first saw it in February 2008.

Ah yeah, there's one I love and not seen for a while.
There's been a few times in recent years when I've had bleached hair and worn a tux; can't imagine where I got that from.

What's funny is that I've come to like the music too, which I originally thought was too cheesy. A sure sign that my standards aren't what they used to be.

I seem to remember being underwhelmed by the music too. The French do a lot of things well, including film, but music tends not to be one of them.
Beer is another, come to think of it. Exceptions to both are around though.

Although the French-speaking parts of Belgium and Canada make great beer, so it's not the language itself.
