Frodo in a Frock

holyoutlaw has asked me to be the best man at his wedding with juliebata. Actually, he hasn't used the term "best man". He asked if I'd be willing to be part of the ceremony. I asked him what I'd be doing, and he said I'd pass him the ring to put on Julie's finger. I guess that makes me a ringbearer, so that makes me Frodo. Which makes him Gollum and makes Julie Mt. Doom ... and I think we'll abandon the metaphor quickly at this point.

I asked Julie what I should wear, and she initially suggested a dress. I immediately thought of something strappy that would show off my tattoos and my lovely, luxurious armpit hair. Julie quickly suggested that a nice traditional suit was more what they had in mind. But hey, they're going to be married by some dude in a fez ...

This will be my third time as a best man, and I am deeply honored, even as it inspires a certain amount of meditation on my apparently permanent bachelorhood. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. As Clint said, a man's got to know his own limitations. Being the best man for three different people is actually a strangely comforting honor in that light.

Now, what's something fannish to tie to their car?
