Coverage of Conjure at abc.au
Apr. 19th, 2006 01:33 pmThere is some interesting coverage of last weekend's Australian National SF Convention, Conjure, at the ABC website (that's the Australian, not American, ABC). It includes a rudimentary (but not insulting) "it's not about Spock ears" apologia, but also a good interview with GoH Bruce Sterling, plus interviews with Cory Doctorow and Sean Williams that I haven't read.
Not bad, for an outsider view of an SF convention. In summing up, reporter/blogger Gary Kemble writes, "Despite at one point being so tired I couldn't figure out how to take Caps Lock off, it was a great experience and changed my ideas about what goes on at science fiction conventions.
"Each person I spoke to had a different take on what they found the most interesting, but the response I received time and time again was - 'It was just great to meet the people' - and that pretty much sums up what conventions are all about."
Exactly!
