Let's hear it for activist judges
Sep. 29th, 2006 01:07 pmSad as it may be, it seems it's now up to the U.S. Supreme Court to save this country from the jackasses who are legislating and executing (um ...) the law of the land. I remind myself that my country has committed foul acts of legislation before and corrected itself later. It's hard to feel very optimistic about it today. About the only silver lining I see at the moment is that both of my senators voted against this atrocity. Let's hope that we really haven't gotten to the point where the Supreme Court is willing to cede this much power to the executive. Hello? Habeas corpus? (And a special, if not supreme, fuck you to Arlen Specter for voting for this and then saying he was relying on the Supreme Court to restore habeas corpus.)
