Just got word from Mom that my dad is in the hospital with atrial fibrillations. They're trying to stabilize it with drugs, but it might require a pacemaker. She said he'd had headaches for the past two or three weeks and that his face looked tense at times, so she finally took his blood pressure and discovered that the diastolic was borderline high. The doctor at the hospital said it was unusual for people to catch it at this stage. Usually there's a heart attack or stroke before anyone knows there's a problem.
So that part sounds very positive. Apparently the doctor is saying that basically old hearts need help functioning sometimes. So far the drugs haven't done the trick, but there's still lots of tests to do. Dad is saying he feels fine, and Mom said his face relaxed as soon as they put him on oxygen.
I'm not sure why I felt the urge to share this, but there it is. We grow old, we grow old. Hang in there, Dad.
Update: The latest from Mom is that the medication has now begun to do the job. Pulse is normal, blood pressure is low. The expectation is that he'll go home tomorrow.
Huge relief!!!!!!!
