WALL-E (2008)

This movie was too cute and fluffy for my tastes, and I say that as a big fan of A Bug's Life. (The cockroach in WALL-E makes the same springy sound FX as the flea in A Bug's Life.) Some nice design and animation, and a few good gags. Probably a great kids film. Not much in it for me, although it might be worth thinking about the silent movie aspect of things, and particularly how they create an iconography of eyes and hands in the robot characters in order to communicate feeling. Of course, when I think about that, I quickly return to the limits of anthropomorphism. The robot made girly eyes! Let's see her girl parts!
Where's Slappy Squirrel when you need her?
