Brewing steam

jackwilliambell invited me over to help him brew some beer. It was the first time I'd ever participated in the process, and it was quite fascinating. At times it seemed like an elaborate chemistry experiment, and at others a cackling piece of witchcraft. I got to stir the wort during the boil, and it definitely made me want to recite the witches' lines from Macbeth, except I couldn't remember them for some reason. Meanwhile Jack told me about his days as a proto-punk metalhead with a frohawk. The things you learn about people over a boiling wort! He let me pitch the yeast, too. The recipe for the beer was based on Anchor Steam, but modified to use ale yeast rather than lager yeast.
Later was the fannish pubmeet at Third Place in Ravenna. It was a beery kind of day, which ain't no bad thing. While I was away on these adventures, the new refrigerator that Denys and I bought at Sears on Saturday was delivered. It's huge! It's spacious! It will hold a lot of beer! Well, soon I'll have quite a bit of home-brewed beer to put in it.
