Scraped from the cellar
Dec. 4th, 2008 08:23 amNothing particularly mind-blowing in the aged beers brought up from the cellar at the Big Time last night. There was a 2006 Nemesis (Belgian Strong Ale) that was the favorite of some, although I liked the second half better than the first myself. There was a 2007 Trombipulator (Belgian Trippel) that was very nice and tasted almost like cinnamon at first. That was probably my own favorite. There was a 2007 Old Sol (wheatwine) that was good, and also a 2004 Old Sol aged in oak that I only got a sip of and tasted quite interesting. (I ordered the 2007 by mistake, boo, argh!) That was all the aged beer I tried, although there was also a Scottish strong ale that I don't remember seeing when it was new. Of the fresh beer, I had the 2008 Old Woolly (barleywine), and it seemed up to standard. Then again, it was the last beer of the night, and by then I wasn't paying as much attention to taste. carl and Scott were there, and you know that means we had ourselves a gay old time. Also a delicious vegetarian pizza.
Tonight is alumni brewers night, with all the old brewmasters apparently offering cask-conditioned brews made specially for the occasion. However, I'll be working on the Corflu progress report tonight and letting my liver rest. (Well, there are a few bottles of Hale's Wee Heavy winter ale at home.)
