Finally made it down to Fremont Brewing with my neighbor. It's just a couple blocks from the house, in what was previously a duckboat barn. This is one of a new breed of small breweries that has taken advantage of new laws to set up a small beer garden in the front area near one of the big doors. Very informal, just one guy pouring beer, a bunch of impromptu seating, and no food except for free pretzels. The place was pretty much packed, with about thirty customers. They had four beers on tap, all very popular styles that aren't really my favorites, but the Universale Pale Ale is quite good (I've had it at the Pacific Inn before) and the Solstice Ale was fine -- sweeter and less hoppy than the pale. Jay and I got caught up on life over a couple of pints and then wandered over to Blue Moon Burgers, which I'd never been to before, despite raves from [livejournal.com profile] holyoutlaw and [livejournal.com profile] juliebata. Great burger, no doubt about it. The Seattle Storm (professional women's basketball team) was on the TV playing Connecticut. The Storm have been kicking major ass this year -- best record in the WNBA by far -- but as we watched they fell behind. I see that they ended up winning by a point. And the point is: the Fremont Brewing urban beer garden is a perfectly pleasant place to get caught up on life with a friend. Limited hours. Check the webpage for instructions. Ride your organic bike. You are allowed to feed your children to the dogs.
