Labor Day weekend
Sep. 7th, 2010 09:12 amA good weekend that started off Friday night with a Mariners game at Safeco.
daveon was showing a visiting British friend, Paul, the American game. I had previously met Paul at Interaction in 2005, and it was good to see him again. We were joined by Dave's neighbor, Bill, who was a hoot. We hooted at the top of our lungs as the Mariners squeezed out a 1-0 win. I also finally made it to the Elysian Fields, which is the Elysian's big sports bar near the stadiums. The crowd there was split between middle aged Mariners fans and young metalheads getting stewed before the Slayer concert at Qwest. Quite a contrast in the fanbase!
Saturday was Vanguard at Andy and Carrie's. It was good to hang out with the local science fiction gang and reassure myself that everyone was still alive and at least halfway functional. I also kept an eye on reports from the World Science Fiction Convention in Melbourne over the course of the weekend. Even looked at photos from last year's Worldcon in Montreal, which made me smile. What a great time that was! What wonderful portrait shots
bovil took! Hope to make it to next year's Worldcon in Reno.
I finished painting the front porch and got the bench reinstalled with Hazel's assistance. Did prep work on the back porch. Repaired the raspberry frame, which was pulled apart by canes weighed down with a heavy crop of late berries. Watched movies, read Lovecraft, drank Mikkeller's lovely Triple Bock at Brouwers. Came up with an (old) idea for a zine-like thing to take to Novacon and SFContario. Bounced off the BBC production of As You Like It with Helen Mirren as Rosalind. Downloaded Stravinsky's Le sacre du printemps for two pianos. Gazed at my navel. Wandered about from place to place without apparent purpose. Felt somewhat at a loss, but productively so. In a slackery way.
