I loved Near Dark when I first saw it as a teenager. The treatment was completely new to me, and it ticked all the boxes of my interests at the time (horror - tick! westerns - tick! vampires - tick! Bill Paxton in tight leather trousers - tickety tickety tickety tickety TICK!).
Revisiting it as an adult is a very mixed experience. It's fun to spot how later vampire books and films have borrowed from it, but some of the performances are very dodgy and the resolution is very lame.
Still love the shootout at the motel, though. And I would still do Near Dark-era Paxton in a heartbeat (if only for a pause in the dreadful overacting).
