Lots of people, including Geri Sullivan, have assured me that the pill-form chemo that I'll be taking, Temodar, isn't as horrible as the old IV chemos were. The main side effect is said to be nausea, but they claim that they can control that with other drugs. That doesn't mean I won't react badly to it myself, since we all react differently, but the oncologists wanted me to think that the fatigue from the radiation would be the worst side effect of the combined treatments. Whatever the case, I sure wish I didn't have to to through this.
And whether I get three more months or three more years out of all this, I just hope I can find a way to enjoy myself a little in whatever time I have left. Another important takeaway from Gawande's book was to see how various people have found different ways to do that under difficult or even disastrous conditions. Hash brownies might help!
