That was Riley's description of The Pub at Third Place, where Fans with Bheer met again yesterday. There's lots of wood in The Pub at Third Place. Lots and lots of beautiful wood. Good beer, too (Leavenworth Blind Pig Dunkel Weizen, for me), and good company. We even saw [livejournal.com profile] daveon, who claims he lives in Seattle now but quickly departed for Taipei. [livejournal.com profile] alanro distributed a flyer about Ditto/Artcon, the fanzine convention and 90th birthday party for R. Twidner that's happening in Gualala this October. I failed to talk [livejournal.com profile] jackwilliambell into running for TAFF. I handed out three copies of [livejournal.com profile] replyhazy and [livejournal.com profile] billzilla's Corflu fanzine. (I have a copy for you too, [livejournal.com profile] holyoutlaw and [livejournal.com profile] juliebata! And actually, you too, [livejournal.com profile] kateyule! The check's in the mail!) [livejournal.com profile] jerrykaufman told me that [livejournal.com profile] svtompkins is having 100 more copies of Steve Stiles' recently completed TAFF report, Harrrison Country, printed. (You should all order a copy from Suzle or [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw, and tell your friends, too. First completed North American TAFF report in 30 years!) [livejournal.com profile] akirlu and [livejournal.com profile] libertango talked about how they almost moved to South Park. Then carl came back to the house with me and we listened to lcd soundsystem and sipped Sauza Tres Generaciones Anejo tequila. A nice lazy Sunday.

I hope this flyer is going out to wider distribution RSN.

Yes, Alan says he's working on further publicity. However, here's the announcement he posted to the trufen Yahoo!Group last week (sorry that the e-mail addresses are munged):

Ditto Revived to Celebrate Art Widner's 90th Birthday

First and Goal on the 10 Yard Line

The rumors of a Ditto revival are true. We will be combining Ditto
with ArtCon this year in order to celebrate Art Widner's 90th
birthday in grand style.

Ditto / ArtCon will be held in Gualala, CA, the weekend of October 26-
28, 2007. Memberships will be $30 before September 30th and $40 at
the door.

Our hotels are the Breakers Inn and the Sea Cliff Motel. As there is
a dearth of rooms in Gualala, we had to use two locations (separated
by less than two blocks) in order to block a sufficient number of
rooms. The main hotel (and the location of the hospitality suite) is
the Breakers Inn; the Sea Cliff is our overflow, and somewhat less
expensive, hotel.

Room rates at the Breakers Inn range from $108 - $204 per night, and
include a full breakfast at the Oceansong restaurant next door.
These rates, although expensive, actually represent a substantial
discount from the regular winter rates. For more information about
the Breakers Inn, please visit their Web site at
http://www.breakersinn.com.

Room rates at the Sea Cliff are $140 per night for a downstairs room
and $160 per night for an upstairs room. These rates do not include
breakfast. For more information about the Sea Cliff Motel, please
visit their Web site at http://www.seacliffmotel.com.

When making a reservation, please mention "Art Widner's Birthday
Party" as the name of our group.

Our room block at the Breakers Inn expires at the end of July, and
our room block at the Sea Cliff Motel expires on September 26th, so
please reserve your rooms as soon as possible.

We realize that theses room rates are fairly steep, and the
accommodations are high end. The one more spartan accommodation in
Gualala (that does not involve pitching a tent) is the Surf Motel;
their rates are still over $100 per night and they would not hold any
rooms for us. We also have the lower cost option of renting a
vacation house about four miles up the road from the convention (and
just down the hill from Art's house). The rate for the house would be
$150 per night, and the vacation house could sleep up to six people.
If enough people are interested, we could also use this house as the
location for a BBQ or the dead-dog party, and as a base for
excursions to Art's house.

Additional information will follow over the next few weeks; in the
meanwhile, please reply on the list or feel free to contact me
directly via e-mail at jophan@... if you have any questions.

Thank you! You are a deliveryman without peer!

(And OH! ArtCon sounds like a fine, fine thing.)

Can the ArtCon stuff go on trufen.net?

Alan said he has being trying unsuccessfully to get it posted there (some kind of software problem) and that he was going to try e-mailing it directly to Mike Glyer. If he sees your message here, perhaps you two can make an arrangement for you to post it. (The flyer may be different from the above, I'm not sure.)

Many times over the years I have heard references to the trufen group, but whenever I go to Yahoo Groups I have never been able to find it.

Try going to <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trufen/>. You have to ask to be added to the group, but it's only a formality. There are currently 145 members from all over the place. (Well, you know, all over the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Sweden, and maybe a Finn or two.)

I sent a copy of the text to Mike Glyer earlier today; with any luck, it should appear on Trufen.net this evening or tomorrow.

I'll be sending printed copies out to the current Ditto mailing list as soon as I receive it. Hopefully, most of the addresses will still be current. Do you know whether Dave Clark still publishes the Bay Area Fandom Directory?

I agree. I was so impressed that I jotted it down in my notebook.

That's a good question. A year ago ... or two? ... I got an already year-or-two old one in the mail from him, and noted that some of its entries had been out of date even then.

I still have my Corflu mailing list, with a lot of Bay Area people on it, but that too is out of date since I haven't been maintaining it since handing it over to Colin and then Pat. But if you want it ...

All news is contained in fringefaan

Ha, that worked. Thanks. And thanks for being first with the news about Ditto, also. This has been an enlightening day.

As your list is probably more current than the DUFF mailing list that is still on my computer, yes, please send it along. This will be especially helpful as I expect many of our members to be from the Bay Area.
