In case you haven't seen it elsewhere, the ballot for the 2008 Fan Activity Achievement (or FAAn) Awards is available at the Corflu homepage. The deadline for voting is February 23rd. You can also vote via e-mail; instructions are on the ballot. Results will be announced on April 27th at Corflu Silver.

Along with the standard categories, this year there's also Best Fan Website. On the fanzine side, there have been a number of excellent new fanzines this year. I've been very impressed with Peter Weston's Prolapse, but I also want to put in a word for Brad Foster's LOCS, which was a rare and brilliant platform for fan artists and cartoonists, who really don't get enough egoboo in this sorry world of ours. In the Best Fan Writer category, one of my votes is going to somebody I pretty much only see on LiveJournal, although I won't name names. Just thought it was worth mentioning that, as with the fan Hugos, I don't think the FAAns need to be limited to fanzine work.

There's another category on the ballot this year, Number-One Fan Face. In the recent past, this award has gone to the person with the most total votes in all categories. I'm not sure what the criteria are for this category as something that is voted on itself. Leading light of fandom? Best-looking fan? A fan whose face has been pissed on, or who looks like piss, or who just looks pissed? The possibilities are endless.

If you are a fan, please vote. It's another way to lob the scimitar of egoboo and make your fellow fan feel appreciated for a brief moment, before insecurity and paranoia once again sends him or her spinning into self-doubt, self-recrimination, and withdrawal from human intercourse. (Thank god for aliens!)

Well sure, I could see voting for good writing on a list or other forum, too. After all, it's just another form of apa-hacking.
