Fricking cool! Is that a John D. Berry original?

Nope, it's Dan Steffan, who is just an amazing artist.

Indeed he is! And who is the artist behind your latest icon?

That's Richard Powers, who did many SF book covers in the '60s and '70s. For instance, he did the cover for The Jewel-Hinged Jaw.

I've also been sort of thinking of offering some of my time for volunteering, if, hmmmm, something small and less-fuck-up-able presents itself.

Thanks! We could no doubt use your help in some form or another.

Neat! I'm more likely to actually make it to the con if i have some sort of obligation. ;) Tho', the more i think of it, i put one condition on my offer of volunteership: I think all volunteers should get a spiffy fez like what the walrus is wearing.

That fez is a bit of an inside joke, alluding to Andy Hooper's habit of wearing a fez to festive and ritual occasions. However, it would be kind of cool to have everybody working at the con wearing a fez. Wonder if there are cheap ones available. Or maybe we should all wear construction paper walrus tusks?

By the way, the most obvious need at this distance is people to take shifts in the hospitality suite, although it's possible we'll need help at the registration table too. And other stuff that isn't visible to me yet.

I suspected that the fez was already an inside joke. Tusks would be hilarious, but then mightn't people mistake it for a convention of furries?

I shall keep my eyes peeled for volunteer opportunities! Registration desk sounds fun, if you find you need help there.

I just checked with Denys and he said he could definitely use your help. He says, "We won't set the actual hours until a little later in the process, but if she could commit to a 2- or 3-hour stretch it would help a lot. More so on Friday night and Saturday morning." I'm guessing most people will register on Friday.

On another issue -- it seems you have chosen a display color -- a shade of purple or wine -- which is applied to the LJ user names in the comments, among other things, which renders them completely unreadable to me (the LJ names only, that is). Or have I somehow inadvertently applied that color myself? Anyway it's rather irritating, because I can't see who has posted what in the way of comments on your journal!

Yeah, sorry about that. I've been trying different journal styles and playing around with the colors, and I haven't found a good mix yet. I'll fix that Real Soon Now!

Okay, I've applied a new style. We'll see if it's any better.

This is an unimportant quibble (hey, I think _some_ quibbles are (reasonably) important) but... ummm... though that's a great Logo in general, the lettering used for the word CORFLU strikes me as being remarkably illegible, or at least misleading to anyone not actually looking for that word. To me, anyhow, it seems to be the kind of thing John D. Berry might cite as an example of unfortunate typography.

But right now I'm thinking more about investigating AMTRACK, and wishing that the Auto Club Travel Agency hadn't gone to Cruises & Package Tours Only.

Hi, Don. It would be terrific if you could make it. Maybe a Corflu would be quiet enough that you could actually hear what people were saying. And you could deliver your quibbles to Mr. Steffan your own self!

That said, one of the things I like about Dan's design is the way that the word "CORFLU" sits on top of the pictorial element like a crown of letters.
