Yesterday the neighbor and I went to the Mural Amphitheater at the Seattle Center to catch a free outdoor show. We missed most of the opening band, Ms. Led. They sounded pretty good and had an interesting gender reversal of the old days when the one woman in the band was frequently the bassist (e.g., Talking Heads and latterday Gang of Four.) Ms. Led are three women with a male bassist.

The headliner, and the reason we went to the show, was Goodness, who have apparently reformed. Carrie Akre is pregnant and has put on a lot of weight since the Hammerbox days, but she can still belt out the tunes. Hope the fetus was wearing earplugs! I was never a huge Goodness fan -- not like I was of Hammerbox -- but they have some good songs and a friendly, relaxed, but still rocking attitude, and it was a real pleasure to hear Akre's great voice again. It was also a beautiful day to hang out on the lawn in the beer garden with a mixed crowd of aging hipsters and young families and tourists of all ages wandering over from the Space Needle. I don't get out to much live music anymore, and it was fun. It was a lark, by golly!

I also read recently (as a parenthetical near the end of a long Stranger article) that Sage has reformed. But that's all I know about it.

Isn't that Marc Olsen's old band? Wondered what had happened to him.

Last time I saw Marc, which was probably over a year ago, he was studying urban horticulture at a community college. Interesting news about Sage!

I just found Marc Olsen's MySpace page: Sage is playing at Bumpershoot on 8/31 at 12:30 p.m. Listening to "Saul" from Marc's last album -- great song! Haven't heard it in over three years.

I don't get out much for music either. I was reading about Outlands which took place in Golden Gate Park this weekend and was rather glad I decided to not go. Sounded like a major crush, plus people jumping fences and squeezing through small entry points, etc. Maybe next weekend I'll go to the Scottish Highland Games which is only about 15 minutes away by car. Not so crowded and some local bands playing Scottish and Celtic music, young dancers, unusual athletic feats and some friends who almost always go to the games. I may have some Scottish ancestry. One grandmother traced our ancestry a fair ways back and got to someone named Tennant in Scotland. I'm amused since that's the last name of the actor playing the current Dr. Who.

Bob Mould is playing at Slim's the weekend after that. I have some temptation to hear him. Also a bit farther down the time stream Bill Frisell is playing at Yoshi's in Oakland. I like Bill Frisell's music. Ah well, enough of my meandering.

Yeah, it would be cool to see Frisell. I'm not sure what I think of Bob Mould. The Highland Games would probably be fun, watching guys hurl logs around and stuff.

I'm sure glad the weather cooperated with the show on Saturday. Yesterday was rainy, so the old outdoor beer garden wouldn't have been quite so much fun.
