Last night I was listening yet again to Alun's Loop XV, and somehow this time the track that jumped out at me was Melt Banana, "Shield your eyes, a Beast in the well of your hand," which is a wonderfully driven punk-noise art song. Never heard of this band before, and I wouldn't have guessed that they were Japanese. Listening to it this morning, it's making me think of early Pere Ubu, but last night it made me think of the Tone Dogs' "(When Bush Was Head Of The) CIA," from their album the early middle years. Looks like it can be found on the web, although my cursory search only found a couple of places where you could play a whole "greatest hits" album that includes this track. It's sort of ambient, or at least abstract, with vocals used as instruments rather than lyric delivery systems. Nowhere near as punk as the Melt Banana song, but similarly driven and mad for pure, odd, compulsive sound.

Thanks for the two loops you gave me in London, Alun. I really like your particular range of musical tastes!
