Thanksgiving in Australia
Nov. 21st, 2007 08:10 amI'm going to be heading to Oregon for Thanksgiving later today, returning on Sunday. Since I'll mostly be on vacation from LJ and the intertubes, I thought I'd take the opportunity now to congratulate the Australians on the apparent change in the national government they will be incurring on the 24th. All indications are that the ten-year reign of the conservative Coalition government of John Howard is about to end, replaced by Labor under the smart tactical guidance of Kevin Rudd. I'm sure that this is mostly about domestic issues, but from an American perspective this will see another of Bush's best buddies in the War on Terra biting the dust. I presume that Australia will follow the British out the exits in Iraq, leaving our only allies there the Federated States of Micronesia.
Anyway, I know some of my Friends will be giving thanks for this change of political eras, and I'll raise a glass too. Good show, Australia! May we waltz in your footsteps next year.
For my American compatriots who are celebrating Thanksgiving, may yours be stress-free, food-full, fun-full, or otherwise relaxing and reinvigorating. As for myself, I am grateful beyond words for so many wonderful developments in my life lately, and above all for being able to celebrate this holiday once again with my father and the rest of my family. Cheers, all!
