"Character is what you are in the dark."
Jun. 8th, 2009 08:50 amYou know, the weather yesterday was just about perfect. So I did some more work in the garden, mostly weeding and pruning back the neighbor's invading vines. The weeds have gotten a little out of hand, I must confess. Over the weekend I filled two barrels with weeds, dead wood, and old pizza boxes. Yes, in Seattle pizza boxes (and recyclable coffee cups) go into yard waste for composting. Or whatever they do with it.
Also did more editorial work for Chunga (and a bit for the Corflu Zed regress report), and I cleaned the bathroom. This time I rewarded myself with a late lunch of a chicken caesar salad at the Pacific Inn, where I watched the end of the Mariners' victory over the Twins. (Sorry,
profgeek. Well, not really!) In baseball, that is.
So far, so much like Saturday. So did I finish the day with another party? No, I wasn't invited to any parties. So I watched a couple of old favorite movies instead, This Island Earth (1955) and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension (1984). I am so bummed that somebody stole my Buckaroo Banzai headband, which I got at the 1984 Worldcon. That movie is my idea of fanboy heaven, total comfort food, endlessly quotable. "Identify yaself naw." Is it just a guy thing? I dunno, it's intellectual slapstick -- for nerds who grew up on movies like This Island Earth.
Tonight is Flesh and the Devil (1926) at the Paramount. It's a silent movie that's notable for its gorgeous, shimmering visuals and trashy, melodramatic plot about a femme fatale played by Greta Garbo who tears two boyhood friends apart. It's a free showing, too, courtesy of Trader Joe's.
