I just rented Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974) and Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break (1991) from Rain City Video, and came home to find Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection in the mail. That one has The H-Man (1959), Battle in Outer Space (1960), and Mothra (1961), all directed by the great Inoshiro Honda.

Hm. I think the best strategy is to start with the Coppola and work my way toward the fantasy titles via Bigelow. By the time I get to the Peanuts singing "Mosura No Uta," I should be ready for lift-off. If you don't hear from me in 48 hours, call the dream police.

Good luck. I think you're the best man for the job. We look forward to your report.

(I put a bunch of Kathryn Bigelow films in my netflix queue as well.)

If you've got the H-man, check out The Secret of the Telegian available for free download from the Internet Archive.

The transfer isn't great, but it's an interesting atomic-period whodunit.

Hm, that certainly sounds interesting from a quick gander at IMDb.

"Enemy of the State," "Hot Fuzz" and the MST3K version of "Gamera" would probably be a bit much for a follow-up after all that :)

I did watch the "updated" Gamera trilogy a while back. It was from the '90s, I think, and it was pretty cool. Never seen any of the original ones.

Haven't seen the newest Gamera movies myself, just the four from the late 60's that MST3K riffed on. I could swear that I saw The Peanuts in one of the Japanese monster movies that MST3K did, but I can't find any direct evidence on imdb.com although it does say they were in a couple of these films that MST3K didn't get ahold of.

Point Break is great fun, albeit mindless fun.
