Special Student
Sep. 8th, 2005 09:06 amOne of my jobs at the University of Washington is to manage the table of major and degree codes -- codes that are used for a variety of purposes by a variety of systems. Today one of the directors in Admissions came down to request a new code to be called Special Student and to be used for students who have been displaced by Katrina (isn't that special?). The president of the University had announced on Tuesday that we would be taking in some students from Tulane and other schools that are currently, well, under water or otherwise unable to function. The tuition will still go to those schools. There are a zillion logistical details still to work out -- not least that there isn't any room in the dormitories for more students at this point. But we have a code for them. We'll figure out the rest in the next days and weeks.
