We've already gotten four emails of comment on Chunga 12, including a surprise letter from Mike Glicksohn. He had said he was putting fanac on hold again while he dealt with cancer that has spread from a ureter to, I believe, the bladder. We managed to jolt him into action, however, partly by calling him an American. Ha! The greatest insult these days. He reports that he had another biopsy recently but hadn't gotten the results back when he wrote the letter. Hope it's good news.

But my thoughts are also with rich brown, who was hospitalized on Memorial Day and has been seriously ill from a variety of things and continues to get worse. The latest news from his daughter, posted to a list yesterday, is very bad. He had gone into respiratory failure and came close to cardiac arrest. His kidneys were also on the verge of failure. Hang in there, rich, or go in peace if that's what needs to happen.

Got Chunga yesterday (along with For the Clerisy). Hope to look at it during the Cleveland drive this weekend.

Looks like it got to the UK before it got to Chicago, because we've gotten two LoCs from across the pond already. I'm sure the Fourth had something to do with it.

My copy landed yesterday, if that helps. Feel rather guilty for not loccing #11.

It's just weird that last ish took two weeks to get to Britain, and this ish got there in less than a week!

Be grateful it got here at all. One Critical Wave mailing to the US vanished completely.

A copy has found it's way all the way to Finland, too. Ever increasing the number of wonderful fanzines I keep getting while doing next to nothing in return. If someone is feeling guilty for not loccing the last time, I feel absolutely gutted for not loccing since... I don't even want to think about it.

But I read them! Thanks again!

I think we're still making up for not adding you to the mailing list right away after you locced us early on!

Well maybe this is a loc

Got it today.

Mental LoC (ie one unlikely to be ever written) composed in garden so far revolves around

a) poor Claire who has to work with someone in her office who sounds like me. It must be terible,

and

b) (cf Alexis G loc) they have Titanic convetions in Southampton?? What!! Is this destined to be my new fandom? Do they have old time fans who are all dying of diseases brought on by decades of depravity too? (And segue: I'll have to send you my CoA wehn I go to Soton. But I am not really sure anymore how one distributes physical CoASs. And is there a point anyway? I don't have a mailing list anymore, just a bunch of email addresses. Does anyone? If I was sending out a hard copy zine again I'd either give it out at a con like I always do and/orI'd borrow your mailing list again :-) (or maybe Plokta's actually - do you still have all those dead/AWOL 80s Gannet fans on your list that Victor insisted on keeping?) Eventually it will be One True Mailing List, I predict, with Claire as the Bearer of the Ring, sorry, database. Hell, why not stick it on a wiki so everyone can just add their own CoAs as and when? That may be the most brilliant idea I ever had - well apart from the spambots of course..

and finally

(c) Snotnose came to my door today with a pile of surplus to needs Flosses c/o your fine self. they are, as he reminded me repeatedly, musy better printed than my originals. But they also seem much SHORTER. What have you missed out , Byers? i'm sure something must be gone but I can't remember what it is!

ps So who IS Dr Chunga? can't help feeling it's you, Randy, but is that just cos I know you best? Andy certainly seems more the mad overlord type and carl probably has better access to mind control lasers. In fact, you're kind of a nice guy really - why do I automatically think of you as a crazed mental dominatrix?

This is really a much easier way to write a loc - why don't all fnzs put little Comment here, our new issue's out! entries on LJ??

Ooh, gosh. I think this is my first LJ-comment-of-comment! But you'll have to wait until the next paper issue for my reply.

Sorry, you're just going to have to figure out how to send me your COA. Since it's such a rare LOC, maybe we'll open the lettercol with it!

But I guess I can respond to your comment on FLOSS!, since it's not about CHUNGA. Nothing was removed, but carl did a minor redesign (e.g., different font) and made it more compact. Saved us a few quid. That's why we keep him around.

I was just about to crib it for you from the most recent Floss, then realised I never saw it.

But of course. However, we'll miss at least one that will then get fixed for the PDF. It is Our Way.

Chunga 12 is great as always and I need to write a big Loch about Loch Ness.

Very sorry to hear about rich. Could info get posted to trufen.net?

From: [identity profile] randy-byers.livejournal.com
That's a good thought. Ted has been posting stuff on the Trufen Yahoo!Group. I'll ask him about posting something to trufen.net.

And we look forward to your loch, too.

No, I don't do IM. I consider e-mail to be advanced technology! When are you actually moving?

Yeah, it really doesn't look good. Somehow it seems particularly sad that he hasn't had the chance to say goodbye. Well, I guess I'm assuming the worst -- or most final -- outcome here. I really don't know what his chances are at this point.
