So [livejournal.com profile] surliminal is in town for a few days, and last night we had dinner at Kaosamai, a very good Thai restaurant in Fremont (apparently good Thai is hard to find in Edinburgh), and then went to a SIFF show, Fuck My Life (Que pena tu vida, 2010), which is a very funny Chilean rom-com. We saw it with [livejournal.com profile] surliminal's friend, A, and A's boyfriend, B. Which makes you wonder who C is in this story, but I digress. They were fun, and it was fun getting caught up with [livejournal.com profile] surliminal's complicated trip so far, as well as variegated gossip about hither and yon.

I think I've got things going on every night this week, including Friday when (skipping C for the moment) D and I are hosting a party for the visitor. Hope to see a bunch of you there. Meanwhile I have survived my yearly performance evaluation, and it actually seems as though I accomplished things this past year. More to come. Gotta run.

At least there's good Thai to be found elsewhere in the UK. I had one of the best Thai dinners I've ever had at a place in Birmingham. Just avoid the un-nauseating but utterly anemic "Thai green curry" to be found in a lot of otherwise non-Thai restaurants in the UK.

I don't think I've ever eaten Thai in the UK, although I could be forgetting something. I'm sure there are good places in London too.

There's good Chinese food in London, I know that; more than in Edinburgh. So there could be good Thai too.

Congats on the performance review! I seem to have stopped being in work situations where such things are inflicted upon me. These days, in my life, they're called "contract renegotiations." I can't decide if I prefer them over reviews or not. One way or another, I hope yours provides a little more income and goodness in your general direction.

I work for the state, which is enacting enormous budget cuts this year, so no raises are in the cards. I just hope that I survive the cuts. I should, but you never know for certain. Let's hope we all survive our reviews and renegotiations, whatever form they take.

I don't think I've ever gotten a favorable performance evaluation. Hah! Oh well.

See you later!

Well, now you know why I work for the state: I don't get raises, but in exchange I get positive PEs.
