That one's got a lot of layers to it, both stylistically and representationally. I don't know what story it's illustrating, but there's another illo involving a syringe and a soldier.

It's got a lot going for it. It's a bold design, overall, and the different areas of tightly controlled textures remind me of why I love pen and ink.

It made me think immediately of "Yankee soldier wanna shoot some skag," but as an illustration for a science fiction story in 1962, it's probably not about that.
