I went to a meeting last week about scheduling for the Time of Chaos that happens every spring around Commencement sign-up, and as I looked at the dates when I had to do important, mission-critical stuff, I had the sinking feeling that it might coincide with Corflu Glitter next year. I finally checked today, and sure enough Corflu is happening right smack in the middle of the time when I'll be needing to run test extractions and then the actual extraction. I suppose I could pop down to Las Vegas Friday night after work and return on Sunday, but my gut reaction to this idea is not good, no fun, ixnay. I think Corflu will be a no-go for me next year.

Ugh. And fuck.

Well, maybe another reason to go to Novacon then.

Irony! I'd just been looking at my Corflu Zed report and thinking, "That was fun. I should get to another Corflu one of these days." Tho' admittedly Las Vegas wouldn't be my preferred venue, so 2012 wasn't high on my list.

Looks like 2013 will be in Portland, so mark your calendar now! (Actually, I don't think they've announced dates yet.)

Oooh, i WILL mark my calendar! In a vague, nebulous, dates-not-announced sort of way. Travelling anywhere in the spring of 2012 is a non-starter for me anyway, as we're *supposed* to be going to Paris in the summer to celebrate my Big Birthday.

I *completely* forgot to tell you that i was tabling at Short Run this past weekend! It was VERY well run for a 1st-time event, so i'm pretty hopeful there will be more.

Short Run looks very cool, and a trip to Paris sounds absolument merveilleux.

Portland. Better than Las Vegas. To put it mildly.

I think the announcement said they're looking at either of the last two weekends in April 2013.

Argh! That would potentially put it in the danger zone for me. Although the last weekend would probably be okay. Hm, well, I'm hoping to see them the weekend after next when I'm in Portland for Thanksgiving.

Lobby for a weekend not in your Time of Chaos. Shamelessly!

I will, of course, but it might be a bad weekend for somebody else and/or for the hotel, so I won't be too adamant.

Oh no!

Well, maybe another reason to go to Novacon then.

Oh YES.

(And of course if you want to stay for longer -- although doubtless there are lots of other places you'd want to visit the next time -- you'd be very welcome to stay with us again.)

Oh, thank you! Christina and Doug have urged me to visit them in Cornwall, which I would love to do, but Croydon might still make a good landing and decompression place. I'd have to fit Belgium in somehow too, of course. Maybe I could go to Cornwall after the convention. Well, I really haven't thought about this at all yet, let alone ask people where I might fit into their plans, so who knows what will happen, if anything? It's possible that next year will be an odd combination of conventions for me, because it looks as though I've agreed to help out with a London in 2014 party at the Seattle Westercon. I can't remember the last Westercon I went to!

It would be great if you could make Novacon next year. If it helps, I promise not to drag you into the spotlight.

Thanks, Steve. There must be chattier candidates for your chatshow anyway. But hey, if you need a roommate ...

In any other circumstance, my friend, that'd be a sure thing, but [profile] theresaderwin and I have already agreed to travel up together, as we did this year.

This time we should try to come to Belgium too... But I agree that going to visit Christina and Doug sounds like a splendid thing generally, after talking to them quite a lot this weekend.

We shall keep making enthusiastic noises at you about this!

Mike Meara has made noises of interest about Belgium as well, so if we don't watch out we may end up filling a car of the Eurostar.

About the right size for a small fun convention, then...

Surely we can organise some kind of honey trap to keep Mr Byers over here for good? Worked for Ms Krawecke, Ms Carol and Ms Hanna.

I rather fancy Belgium too.. the only thing I'd say is why not Eastercon? better weather than at Novacon!

ps and you coukd get to Edinburgh this time too??

Eastercon would be nice, but April is a pretty bad time for me to take off for a couple of weeks. November is generally a better time for me to go missing from work. Pity about the weather!

I do want to get back to the stone streets of Edinburgh, but that might have to wait until 2014. We'll see. It's all just brainstorming at this point.

Well, that sucks. I've been hoping to live Corflu vicariously through your memories. At least the Time of Chaos seems to come at a relatively slack time of movie releases.

But Portland: better than Las Vegas, as has been said. And I'm not surprised that a mere mention of the possibility of going to another Novacon has already resulted in people saying YES YES. People on the receiving end of such a visit, even. ;>

Good thing I used the emoticon so you knew I was kidding.

Yeah, well, I could just go for a long walk in Seattle instead. Lao Tzu would probably approve. Or as my grandmother used to say, "You haven't seen everything in Oregon! Why travel somewhere else?"
