Since I posted here earlier about my intention to go to Novacon again this year, I feel I should post here now that I've canceled my plans. It's because I need to get my blood sugar under control in the next six months, if possible, which I suppose is obvious enough. Anyway, that's about it. Sorry I'll be missing the Brum scrum, but I hope to catch up with y'all another time, perhaps in London in 2014.

Oh, I guess I could also mention that I have a Novacon membership, if anyone is looking for one.

That's too bad. I guess it's not just "get the blood sugar under control" but "get the habits established well enough that you can go to a Novacon and not blow them out of the water and take six more months to recuperate." ;>

You are one wise man. I look forward to reading about your plans and the fab times you have at one or more future Novacons, after the new habits are well-established and the blood sugar thing has moved into non-issue territory as a result.

James White enjoy his "Big Sailors" at Novacons and other conventions he attended. In moderation, which is how he successfully hit that 50 year mark as a diagnosed diabetic, at a time when few people did since they were diagnosed back in the early days before much was known about how to effectively control blood sugars that were out-of-whack thanks to the body's insulin-producing mechanisms not working correctly.

That really is impressive! My mom has told me some horror stories about my diabetic grandfathers, especially my dad's dad. But now you have me wondering what a Big Sailor was!

James White's favorite drink.

(He was so proud of the name.)

Oh, dear, I forget whether he drank it neat or on the rocks. 6.5 carbs per 1 oz. serving. Ever so manageable, as long as he didn't have too many.

If you haven't already found it (and if it's reasonably accurate), this beer carbs chart might be helpful. There's a good smattering of real bheer mixed in with all the Anheuser Busch products.

Okay, that's the kind of complicated, bi-lingual pun worthy of a true fan.

Thanks for the beer carbs chart. Figures that of the New Belgiums on the list, the two I like best are the biggest carb bombs. Although it's also interesting to see that Flying Dog's tripel (which I've never had) has less than half the carbs of New Belgium's trippel. More grist for the mill!

One of the things I learned from talking to a dietitian last Wednesday and looking at another online carb list with her is that whiskey has basically zero carbs. Makes a boy think. (Of course the other danger of any alcohol is impairment of judgment about what it makes sense to consume.)

I do not yet have a Novacon membership; how much are you looking for?

Brilliant! I love you, johncoxon! Let's take this to e-mail, where I will connect you to my UK agent and see if something can be worked out.

It will probably be less anxiety-prone and more eloquent than the original. The perfect guest for a chat show!
