When [livejournal.com profile] peteyoung was in town on a stopover last year, he mentioned to me that he had started indexing fanzines on the Internet Speculative Fiction Database. Perhaps he was trying to encourage me to take up that work myself, but if so the clue failed to take. Nonetheless I was very pleasantly surprised a couple of days ago when the formerly-long-haired [livejournal.com profile] fishlifter pointed out that I'm now in the ISFDB. You might want to poke around to see if you are too. And maybe take up this work yourself.

Ah, yes, I am as well, although I had totally forgotten that I gave the Zed's Dead, Baby essay to Journey Planet. Just goes to show. Something.

It shows that Zed Is Truly Dead, Baby.

Hey, who knew? I'm not there, but the ex is (go him for writing something more recently than, um, 1994...).

I'd do some data entry, but . . yeah, like I don't already have enough when-I-have-time data entry projects. And no huge backlog of zines to document. Another day, perhaps. Still, it's cool that Pete (et al.) have started adding fanzines to the ISFDB.

Yep, I'm with you on that. I think it's cool that Pete's putting the effort into it, even if I'm too much of a slacker to help!

I'm really far too busy indexing my collection to contribute to this. Currently stage one of my index, title & issue number, is up to 5112 items while stage two, editor(s), date & notes, is up to 2252 items. Once stage two is up to date then I begin indexing selected fanzines in greater detail, ie. written contributions including letters and artwork.

Perhaps it's just me but I do think a fiction database to be a strange place to be indexing fanzines.

It is a bit strange, but perhaps it got started by completists wanting to get in everything by a favorite writer, including fanzine articles.

It does seem a bit like storing bananas and banana shallots together but if nobody seriously objects I can't see any reason not to do it. If nothing else it makes an interesting contrast to the fanac.org names cross reference.
