I've only seen JPEGs from 40 Days in the Desert on the internet, but it looks utterly fascinating. Image after wordless image of surreal situations in the desert. It just goes on and on, endlessly fertile and weird. Hope I can get my hands on a printed copy some day, but you can see more at the Quenched Consciousness tumblr: 40 Days in the Desert.
Sorry! But yeah, there's lots of whole stories there, and stuff that's practically impossible to get your hands on otherwise, plus all kinds of other interesting stuff, such as homages to Moebius by other artists.
It looks like a bookseller in Florence, Italy has a copy of the book for $60 plus shipping at ABEbooks here. My Italian isn't great, but I think that's what it is.
I was pretty sure that there was a description of the book somewhere in the tumblr, and here it is: 'Moebius’ obscure 40 Days In the Desert fascinates me. The book is near impossible to find, except occasionally on Japan’s Amazon listing. A wordless tone poem, that I assume is 40 pages in length, it’s comprised of single images for each page that construct a narrative that’s up to interpretation. I believe that this is an elaborate attempt on his part to share his one experience on mushrooms, which he described as “so powerful that I vowed never to do it again”.'
