I've just requested that my LJ username be changed from fringefaan to randy_byers. All my Friends links should be automatically updated, from what they say. Do not be alarmed. I gotta be me. I don't know how long it will take for the change to be effected.

Seems to be coming through right now.

You showed up on my friends page with your new user name. Hiya, Randy.

I kinda liked "fringefan" because it suggested that you didn't take yourself the least bit too seriously, but I think "randy_byers" is probably a bit better. For _The Best_, however, I might suggest that something like "Byers,_Randy" might be called-for, because it helps put things in alphebetical order, and yes, I've been known to be accused of being Excessively Pickey.

Okay, fitch_don, you go first!

The idea behind "fringefaan" (with the double A) when I first came up with it 20-odd years ago was that I was a science fiction fan who hung out with faanish types, just as a fringefan (with a single A) was a non-SF-reader who hung out with SF fans. These days that joke no longer seems quite so appropriate, as I'm afraid I've been fully assimilated and am hardly fringy to the faanish types anymore. Hell, I've even won FAAn Awards! But specifically regarding LiveJournal I came to feel that hiding behind a pseudonym (even if most people who mattered knew who lurked behind it) was no longer what I really wanted to do. On the other hand, I'm probably stuck with my fringefaan@yahoo.com email address for the foreseeable future, so the old joke lingers on.

It was actually remarkably easy and almost instantaneous.

You should have gone for the total truth and listed as EB Frohvert.

You are a devil, Mr. Thynne. (If that really *is* your name.)
