Healthness

Everybody loves a health post, right? Yesterday I had my annual "wellness exam". (Why does that sound like such a horrible euphemism to me?) The good news: My new doctor says new thinking about statins suggests that my risk factors are so low that maybe I don't really need to be on a statin. So I'm going to stop taking the one I've been on, and we'll do a lipids test in three months. As I believe I mentioned here last January, I'd really been hoping that my dietary and exercise changes for glucose intolerance would mean that I could drop my statin, but my lipids test at that time actually indicated a slight increase in cholesterol. However, my new doctor said that the level of good cholesterol had increased as well, so the ratio was still fine. Fingers crossed that I can remain statin-free going forward. We shall see. Amongst other things, there was a recent study that indicated that some statins (including the one I've been taking) might actually increase glucose intolerance, so I'll be very curious to see what happens to my A1C level as well.
Not-so-great news: I've been suffering pain in my right shoulder for a couple of months. It's not terrible pain, but it has restricted my range of motion. It has even hurt to just cross my arms, and I haven't been able to sleep on my right side either. The preliminary diagnosis is tendinitis, and they're suggesting Naproxen (an anti=inflammatory) and 6-8 weeks of physical therapy. Oh joy. But I guess I'm relieved that they don't think it's a torn rotator cuff, just an inflamed one. The physical therapist should be able to come up with a more precise idea of what's going on.
