Well, the first two days of this trip have each had big announcements. On Wednesday, my niece and her fiance asked me to conduct the ceremony at their wedding next July. I was deeply moved by their request. Sheesh, it's like they think I'm an important figure in their life or something. I still haven't made up my mind whether I'll do it, because the prospect of public speaking fills me with vast crawling anxieties, but I really want to do this for them. What the hell. Maybe I'll learn from the fiasco of giving a small speech at my parents' fiftieth wedding anniversay, when I read Omar Khayyam for no apparent reason.
The other news is much less momentous than that, but my parents are taking the whole family to Costa Rica for six days at a resort next March. This family travels together very well, although I think the last time we all went somewhere together was the trip to Yap over Christmas in 1998. I've never been to Central America before, so this will be great. There's snorkeling! Haven't done that since I was on Yap in 2002.
Can't imagine that any new bombs will be dropped today. This evening I begin the three legged flight to Massachusetts.
