It's a three day weekend hereabouts, and this is the first weekend in a long time (it seems to my slackard mentality) when I haven't any particular responsibilities that I really ought to deal with. Although today I have in fact written most of a LOC to Banana Wings, which I promise, guys, I really will finish and send in this time. Yes, that was the one nagging argument to be responsible today, but it could also be seen as an opportunity and a challenge to bloviate fannishly, so what the hell. Somebody has to pay.

Said partial LOC was written longhand over lunch at Brouwers, which is having a Belgian beer month, speaking of irresponsible. I ended up chatting for a while with a couple of beer-knowledgeable guys who had come over from Bremerton. They belong to a home-brewing club over there. One of them told me that a few brewers on the West coast are starting to use wild or local yeasts, as they do in Belgium. On the way to Brouwers, I poked into Jive Time (looking at the used DVDs) and Sonic Boom (where I bought Patti Smith's new album of cover songs, Twelve).

Ah yes, and my housemate is in California today, at his niece's high school graduation, so I have the place to myself. Think I'll shoot a speedball, turn the stereo up to 11, expose myself to the neighbors, sacrifice a small child to Satan, and then think of something horrible and offensive to do.

Either that or I'll watch John Ford's Fort Apache and eat leftover Chinese food and drink more fine imported beer.

Wow, did she really cover "Gimme Shelter" too? Hm ...

"...where I bought Patti Smith's new album of cover songs, Twelve..."

It's really trif! I've had "Are You Experienced" on a mental loop for over a week.

On a first play-through, the one that really grabbed me was "White Rabbit," with Flea on bass and Tom "Oh, my god" Verlaine on psychic guitar.
