"At first they were pitched in a low, rasping hum devoid of vowels, somewhat like Icelandic but more bestial. As time wore on they became interwoven with sharp cries and commands of "Glonfy!" and 'Rehume!'" (SJ Perelman, "What Am I Doing Away from the Home?")

The fan room and real ale bar were fucking excellent! I am hallucinating from jetlag and Bunnahabhain. Blessings on the houses of [livejournal.com profile] daveon, [livejournal.com profile] bohemiancoast, and [livejournal.com profile] surliminal. Blessings on the Floor Party in the Hilton, and all who partook. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout for timely texts. I am hallucinating from jetlag and Bunnahabhain. Where did that Australian girl in the fuchsia satin dress get to?

Why this is Seattle, nor am I out of it (except mentally).

An actual HAPPY worldcon report! Woo hoo!

Welcome back, dude!

Actually, most of the comments about the Worldcon on LJ are very upbeat and enthusiastic. Most people seem to have had an excellent good time. I blame the Red Smiddy (real ale).

Thanks for helping Denys out with the party. My room was actually clean!

Indeed, it's disgusting how sloppy drunk everyone sounds when talking about this worldcon, "I luve yous mate. Yous is the best. . ."

This was also a great convention for meeting Aussies, by the way. I met Justin Ackroyd, Dave Cake, Karen McKenna, and [livejournal.com profile] zarab, for example, and renewed my acquaintance with Alison Barton, not to mention the ubiquitous GUFF team, [livejournal.com profile] dmw and [livejournal.com profile] dalmeny (aka Damiette and Julien), whom we saw in London and Edinburgh as well. First met Dave Cake at the London pubmeet on Monday the 1st, come to that.

And yes, I luve them all and want to have their babies.

Um, that would be [livejournal.com profile] zarabee, methinks.

Indeed, [livejournal.com profile] zarabee. And yes, everybody keeps mentioning the Aussies. Does this mean we'll up to arseholes in visitors next time there's a worldcon here?

Well, the 2010 Australian bid party seemed to go very well, and once the official party went away, a bunch of us took over the facilities for a post-party party. I think the only Aussies there were Sharee and Dave Cake (who promptly passed out), so you may be doomed.

Or hold on, no, that was the room where the Clarion South party had been, not the Worldcon bid. Guess that means the foreigners will be up the arseholes of your wannabe writers.

In any event, sounds like the Natcon in Brisbane next year could be interesting. Folks are conspiring to make [livejournal.com profile] owlrigh feel, well, honoured as FGOH.

From what I understand anybody who attends a Brisbane convention will most certainly be up to their arsehole in neo-pros. But not me, if I want to swim I'll stay in Canberra and go to the pool. There isn't a month in the year when Brisbane doesn't have too much humidity for my liking.

Ha! Well, it's only fair, I suppose, because Canberra was slagged for its freezing weather at some point in the con. (I won't name names!) I think it had something to do with a convention that is being held there in July -- in the dead of winter!

Still, there just might be a fannish tide rising in Oz, even if it is on the muggy side. (Then again, I luve the tropics, mate.)

I fear that those consigned to eke out a miserable existance in the fetid lowlands that girt Australia are jealous of Canberra because it has four distict seasons. Unlike the fetid lowlands where they only have two, summer and not summer.

Guess I haven't been reading the same LJs as you have.

What with the heat and all, most of the party happened outside in the backyard. The party was a treat, and Denys needed very little help.

Who had a bad time? real question - apart from [livejournal.com profile] pnh I honestly haven't read another really negative comment on the con - well a couple of people had trouble finding people they knew in the SECC, but I regard that as inevitable at W/cons. It's certainly night and day from the reaction to Intersection.

I am deeply unhappy that my five-year mission to have Seattle moved closer to mainland Britain is no further forward than it was in 2000.

Miss you, old chap. Best wishes to you and your beautiful lady.

Sharee just adored you, BTW. Must've been the accent. Please give Tom my best. Loved our trip to Freud!

I'll send pictures at some point.

I regret to say that we only got pictures of Sharee in That Dress either from behind, or with her in the middle distance.

Mark Plummer was kind enough to take a couple of pictures of the two of us together outside the Armadillo before the reception, and I also have a few other photos of Sharee with various folks at the Hugo Losers party.
